The library is a hub of activity for the community of Baysville and surrounding areas.
It was first established in the late 1800's in the home of Mrs. J. Campbell with books
and book cases donated by local residents and occupying the front hall of the home.
When Mrs. Campbell's home was demolished, the library was established in the
Township Hall, circa 1897. It was open one night a week with both Louise and Maude
Ellis volunteering as librarians. In 1915, however, Miss Ellis was paid $12.00 a year,
and the library received a government grant to purchase new books.

In 1991, the library opened in the arena/community centre facility with Jeannie Young
as librarian.

In 1996, the library brought High Speed Internet Access to the community through the
CAP programme.

Today under the management of CEO Linda Lacroix, it continues to be a friendly,
family-oriented centre where children and adult activities are on-going. Packed with
current best sellers, DVD's, magazines, talking books and a well stocked children's
centre, it is the hub of the community. Drop by for a relaxing sit by the fireplace and a
friendly chat.

Irwin Memorial Public Library was opened in Dwight on November 28, 1977. Mr. L.R. Holmes, principal of the school was librarian, assisted by Audrey Loader.

The library was created through joint agreement with the Muskoka Board of Education
and the Township of Lake of Bays. It served the needs of the students during school
hours and the people of the community during after school hours.

In 1983, the library was moved to the Municipal Office building beside the Dwight Post Office. The new library opened in its present location in 1994.

Librarian Peggy Hurley, and Library staff, Christine Williams and Cathy Fairbairn were
t he proud recipients of the prestigious Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce 2008 People's Choice Award.

The library provides an excellent selection of current bestsellers, DVDs, Talking and Musical CDs, Non-Fiction, Periodicals, Large Print and Children's books.

The library was the first in the community to provide WI FI and High Speed Interent
service to the public.

The library is the hub of the community, offering a warm, inviting and friendly
atmosphere. Sit by the fireplace, under the skylight or cozy up in one of the Muskoka loveseats.
